The National Leo Tolstoy Museum-Estate in Yasnaya Polyana, located in Tula region, is famous worldwide. Yasnaya Polyana is the place where Leo Tolstoy was born in 1828, lived for about 60 years, wrote many of his books including «War and Peace» and was buried in 1910. Yasnaya Polyana is a phenomenon of Russian historic and cultural life. With its authentic buildings, surrounded by picturesque forests, orchards and parks, it is a typical Russian estate, which will give you an insight into the everyday life and traditions of the 19 th and the beginning of the 20 th centuries.

Itinerary:

  • Arrival in the Yasnaya Polyana settlement.
  • Excursion to the National Leo Tolstoy Museum-Estate in Yasnaya Polyana. 
  • Lunch in a local national cafe "Preshpekt".
  • Free time. Optional entertaining excursion and tea-drinking in the Kuchersky log hut (with tea, pies, fruit liqueur, stories about russian rural traditions and customs) or driving on horses in carriage (in the winter on sledge) on territory of the estate.
  • Departure from Yasnaya Polyana.

  • National Leo Tolstoy Museum-Estate in Yasnaya Polyana. The museum contains Tolstoy's personal effects and movables, as well as his library of 22,000 volumes. It was there that Tolstoy wrote his celebrated novels War and Peace and Anna Karenina. You visit the writer's mansion, the school he founded for peasant children, and a park with Tolstoy's unadorned grave.
  • Kozlova Zaseka - railway station where Leo Tolstoymet and saw off his friends. The exhibition Railway of Leo Tolstoy can be seen in the old station building in style of the 19th century.
  • Horseback and sleigh rides - horse breeding has been a tradition at Yasnaya Polyana since the early 19 th century. The museum provides you with the necessary equipment. Beginners will be instructed in riding and care of the horses by an experienced trainer.
