The description of the route This river voyage links the great imperial cities of the czars. Russia's two most famous cities are also the repositories of Russian art and architecture. Moscow, the medieval and 20th-century capital, has a wonderful heritage of historic buildings, while St. Petersburg, the creation of Peter the Great, benefited from the inspiration of Europe's greatest 18th-century architects and craftsmen. Three rewarding days will be spend in each of these great cities. We will cruise the intricate pattern of connecting rivers, canals and lakes that link Moscow with St. Petersburg. In addition to exploring the wonders of the cities, you will sail through enchanting countryside and witness firsthand the tranquillity and beauty which has inspired writers and musicians for centuries.

Spend three glorious days in this exciting city while your ship is docked in port. You will tour the Kremlin, visit Red Square and marvel at the Byzantine splendor of St. Basil's multi-colored onion-domed cathedral. Tver is one of most ancient cities of Russia. Tver lays on banks of the rivers Volga, Tverza, Tmaka, Lasur, Solominka. The territory of city includes number of natural parks.Tver founded in 1135. Tver competed to Moscow in XIV-XV for leadership in Russian. In the Middle Ages Tver was one of the main Russian centers of craft manufacture and international trade. Uglich was founded in 1148. Uglich is one of the most beloved towns in old Russia. The view of the town as it is approached from the Volga River is especially lovely with the Cathedral of the Resurrection and St. John's Church looming on the horizon. At the end of the 16th century, Maria Nagaya, seventh wife of Ivan the Terrible, lived in honorary exile in the Kremlin at Uglich. It was here in her garden that the Czarevich Dmitry met his death and where the Church of St. Demitrius of the Blood was built and still stands today. Within the Kremlin is the oldest building in Uglich, the Palace of Czarevich Dmitry. | IRMA

Stretching for 18 miles on both banks of the Volga, Yaroslavl is an important Volga port with a population of 600,000. It was founded in the 11-th century by Prince Yaroslav the Wise and today retains many noteworthy monuments of its colorful past. Of special interest is the magnificent 13th-century Spassky Monastery ensemble, a group of majestic 17th century cathedrals, an elegant rotunda and remnants of an ancient trading center. Loveliest of all is the Church of Elijah the Prophet, situated in the town's central square. The frescoes on the walls and vaulting inside the church constitute a veritable museum of old Russian paintings. | GORITSY

Goritsy-is a tiny settlement seven kilometers from the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery. Visit what remains of the Nunnery of the resurrection on the banks of the Sheksna River in Goritsy, within a quarter of a mile of where the ship stop, will be interesting for any tourist.

Valaam is a group of islands in the north-western part of Lake Ladoga. Valaamskie islands include the isle of Valaam and more than fifty smaller islands. The total area is 36 sq. km. They contain granite and many different stones. The islands are mainly covered with coniferous forests. There is the settlement of the Valaam Monastery on the island of Valaam. It was founded in the fourteenth century. The monastery protected the borders of Novgorod from the Swedish invaders. But in 1611 they managed to invade the Monastery. The monastery was reconstructed in 1715 under the orders of Peter I. Valaam monastery is famous for its strict Rules and well arranged economy. | KOSTROMA

One of the loveliest cities of the Golden Ring, Kostroma is certainly a highlight of the cruise. The pride of Kostroma is the museum of the former Ipatyevsky Monastery founded in the 14th century by the Zemov family, the forebearers of the Godunovs. The crypt of the Monastery became the Godunov burial vault. Kostroma is the only Russian city retaining the classical layout of the 18th/19th centuries, with streets and boulevards fanning out like the spokes of a wheel from a central square. Of special interest will be a visit to the outdoor museum village, 'Berengeevka.' | KIZHI ISLAND

Via the Volga/Baltic Canal, our cruise takes us to the tiny island of Kizhi, located at the northern end of Lake Onega. Renowned for its open-air Museum of Architecture assembled from various areas of the country and restored to form a glimpse of the past. Green Stop. In the village there are some structures built according to the Russian fine traditions of wooden architecture. Village dwellers meet the guests and organize something special for them. There is a museum of Russian Vodka in the Remeslennaya Sloboda, where tourists can get acquainted with the history of Russian vodka industry. You will be walking along the picturesque woods.

The capital of the Kareliya Republic, Petrozavodsk is the largest city of Kareliya. You enjoy the panorama of the city, with its terraces along the shore, walk through the market and splendid parks. In the evening enjoy dancing and singing performed by a local folklore group. | PUSHKIN

While in St. Petersburg you will be taken on an optional tour to Pushkin, known as 'The Czars Village'. The Summer Palace was built in the 18th century and many aristocrats built their homes here. Nicolas II and Alexandra made Pushkin their permanent house for several years before their demise. The highlight of the visit is Catherine's Palace with its massive facade of white columns, trimmed with gold molding on a rich blue background. | ST. PETERSBURG

This famous city was founded on May, 16, 1703. It is an industrial, cultural and scientific centre of Russia, the largest centre of transport of the country, sea port and international airport. It was the capital of The Russian Empire from 1712 untill 1728 and from 1732 untill 1918. St. Petersburg is called ' The Nothern Venice'. It is situated in the western part of Prinevskaya lowland where the river Neva flows into the Gulf of Finland. The city has more than 40 rivers, branches, channels. A very interesting phenomenon of nature, called 'white nights', can be watched in St. Petersburg in the first half of summer. St. Petersburg is one of the most beautiful cities of the world. It's unique, specific character is reflected in magnificent buildings, straight lines of streets, its green parks and gardens, in the smooth surface of its rivers and channels, in the embankments, it is full of historical and architectoral monuments. It has 363 bridges, beautiful fences, and many outstanding monumental sculptures. | LAKE LADOGA

It is the largest lake in Europe. About 500 islands are situated along the north-western shore of the lake. Its shores are overgrown with graceful willows, tall old trees and stately pines. The route 'from the Varangians to the Greeks' passed trough Lake Ladoga. |
